Made by the same company since the late 1800s, Au Ver A Soie, Soie d'Alger Silk Embroidery thread remains one of the highest quality threads available today. Soie d'Alger is a stranded spun silk with 7 easily divisible plies. Soft, lustrous and smooth, it is made from a spun silk called "strusas" which gives it unrivaled regularity for hand embroidery. The thread is dyed in skeins to guarantee homogeneous color. It does not snarl or pill and has good tensile strength.
Soie d'Alger is ideal for cross stitch, hand embroidery, tassel making, canvas work and more.

Using this is a dream. It is so beautifully smooth, the sheen is exceptional, and the fine stands allow for some really fantastic level of detail in my embroidery. The colors are super saturated, too.
I bought this for one specific project, but I think I'm going to end up having to own the whole collection, because my mind is already full of ideas for incorporating it into all my embroidery.
Using this floss feels like such a luxury. Highly recommend!
If I had unlimited thread money I would purchase ever color way of AVS Dalger silk floss. This array of pinks is eye candy.
