Hitomezashi Sashiko Stitching Sampler - Kakukikko Tsunagi (1019)

3 items left

Hitomezashi is one of the styles of Sashiko, a Japanese form of hand embroidery. Hitomezashi means "one stitch" and this family of designs is stitched on a grid to form intricate and dense patterns. Hitomezashi samplers provide hours of meditative stitching practice that result in a beautiful hana-fukin (kitchen cloth) that can be used for years or incorporated into other projects such as bags, quilts, table runners and more.

Olympus brand Sashiko Samplers are printed on 100% cotton Sashiko fabric (Sashiko Momen) using wash-away ink. Simply follow the stitch lines by stitching all the horizontal lines first, then the verticals and finally the diagonals and watch your complete pattern emerge as you stitch. Once you have finished stitching, simply rinse the sampler in water to wash away any stray markings.

Snow OR flowers

I still don't know if I'll do this one to look like snow, or summer flowers... so I know I will love stitching it!

Great Beginner Hitomezashi Pattern

This sampler is a good Hitomezashi pattern to start with since it uses a simple design with repetitive stitches. It gave me a lot of practice on spacing & closing off stitches. This looked cute with the Olympus short-pitched variegated blue thread.
